The Social Studies Department prepares students to participate as constructive citizens in a democratic society. Students achieve mastery of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) through an integrated discipline-based content with interpretive skills involving maps and globes, information processing, social participation, and problem solving. The Department is multi-disciplinary in structure, offering courses in history, Geography, Political Systems, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Law, and Current Issues. Many of the required courses for graduation are offered in levels of college prep and honors levels. Advanced Placement (AP) courses for college credit are also offered.

As GCPS moves forward with eClass, DHS asks that parents use their student's eClass login to see what is taking place in their student's classes. We hope you will begin seeing a change in the teaching and learning process. Please be patient with us as we are growing and learning, too during this exciting time. |
